Can't the EU provide money to hire mercenaries? permalink fedilink source hideshow 2 child comments replies: [โ] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago (2 children) They would run out of available qualified mercenaries very quickly as there are not that many. So it will just be foreign volunteers that they will need to train. What they really need is European expeditionary forces consisting of air defence assets and air power, so their can gain air superiority over the front-lines. If Russia can invite North Korea to operate within the borders of Russia, why can't Ukraine invite Polish air defence units to do the same? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [โ] daw@feddit.org 4 points 3 days ago (2 children) This the last question: not because your logic is wrong, but because Russia will interpret that as us entering the war and BC they define that as the red line. However they have defined other thongs as red lines before. Its all due to how much power the EU chooses to give to Putin. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [โ] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago* (1 child) There has been about 50 crossed red lines that Russia said would have dire consequences. I think its more a case of which lines the Europeans are willing to cross at risk of public support at home when service members start coming home in coffins. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [โ] daw@feddit.org 1 point 3 days ago What I'm saying.... permalink fedilink source parent [โ] einkorn@feddit.org 1 point 3 days ago Putins redline permalink fedilink source parent [โ] muelltonne@feddit.org 0 points 3 days ago (1 child) They would run out of available qualified mercenaries very quickly as there are not that many. Just a maybe crazy idea: There are millions of young men trying to get into the EU to earn a better living there. They are willing to risk their lives by crossing oceans in not-seaworthy ships. Maybe offer some of them a way to EU citizenship through serving in a EU army? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [โ] TheBlackLounge@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago Right wing's dream.
