That hell is made of shit we csn use instead of just mostly an absence of anything. It is widely more colonizable although either are far flung. Venus is chock full of useful gap and making cloud cities on Venus is a more attainable goal than living on Mars. I dont think either are that great of an idea for now, but Venus is a more useful target than Mars. If youre considering either as a place to live you are looking at space exploration wrong. Occupying planets long term is soooo much harder than space colonies that get raw martial and energy from these planets, and for that Venus is the winus. We cant and maybe shouldnt make planets hospitable to people. There are huge ethical considerations there if it wrent such a fantastic idea in the first place. We cant even keep a planet that sustains life really well on its own together, no fucking eay can we bend other planets to suit our survival any time soon.

    None of those reasons sound any more viable than Mars, and even if we wanted to exploit the resources of the surface, nothing we want to send down will survive long enough because of the atmospheric pressure, temperatures and corrosive atmosphere. Any automated systems will just stop working. At least on Mars we can send drones down that won't disintegrate after a short time. The only thing you could do is scoop up gases on the upper atmosphere (which is mostly CO2 anyway, basically useless), but that's a waste of energy and the weather systems make that a crapshoot.

    But like you said, Mars is also silly, there's nothing there and it's too far away, it's only real value is advancing scientific understanding and that's it.

    The surface is no good but the atmosphere has layers of cool shit. Heat rises so floating something to occupy the band of atmosphere that is totally okay for humans isnt all that far fetched. It's still basically science fiction but harder science fiction than colonizing mars. Cloud cities on Venus sound more fantastic but are genuinely more likely than dome cities or whatever on Mars. There is a good amount of nitrogen and oxygen on Venus which is pretty useful the upper atmosphere does a solid job of producing oxygen out of the massive amounts of co2 in the atmosphere via photolysis. Keeping something going energy wise would be easy as well cause the planet is hot af, just hang a turbine and let the rising 'air' handle the rest. They're both silly sci fi ideas for now, but Venus is the better target to work towards as far as planets go. We are so fsr from ready for other planets that this is a measure of less impractical vs more impractical, we cant do either rn. Space stations are the way to go at the moment.
