I'm currently going through the junior year of my high school, that was 20 years ago exactly. It has been 22 years since my favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox, had finally broken their Curse of the Bambino in 2004. The Harry Potter main book series ended 19 years ago while the film series ended 15 years ago.
When you're a five year old, one year is 20% of your entire life. When you're a 50 year old, it's 2%. As you get older, time passing does speed up, at least from your older perspective.
For me, and I know it's a bit of a meme, but the 1970s really do feel like they were only 30 years ago. It's like my brain picked 2000 as the point from which I understand and reference the passage of time. I have no doubt that when I've been alive longer in the 2000s than the 1900s I still won't feel like that's true.
