[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 39 points 4 hours ago (3 children) I know this is a shitpost sub, and nothing should be taken seriously, but wheres the joy in asking chat gpt to make something for you? Where the thrill of leaning something new? The joy of getting new puzzle pieces to build something you made? My white pill walking around a squear floor in Godot sure looks boring, but I made it, and I learnt something new... permalink fedilink source hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] knitwitt@lemmy.world 12 points 1 hour ago (1 child) I think it's like making a cake using box mix. Of course home made is infinitly better but at least you still have a cake at the end of it. Maybe this soulless AI cat guy will have some human spirit put into them when the creator puts them into a really personal digital puppet show that allows them to express themselves through writing and storytelling as opposed to 3D modeling. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 2 points 55 minutes ago Fair enough I guess. That being said, I am still Team 'Lasts spend half a day making a cheese cake' vs box cake. But I'm not going to ask others to follow my lead. (I am also just air frying tenders for dinner, so I'm also lazy at times) permalink fedilink source parent [–] ArmoredThirteen@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 hours ago One disconnect here is some people just don't give a fuck about learning or improving in itself, only to achieve a goal. So like "I want to make XYZ" the outcome is what they value not the process of getting there. Now they've been handed a tool that can skip the learning part and go right to "produces something better than I can" which only works because the bar is so low when you are comparing it to completely unpracticed work permalink fedilink source parent [–] victorz@lemmy.world 11 points 3 hours ago (1 child) This is my argument against using AI in my life. I take pride in the craft, in my craft, in what I do. I'm a maker. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 hours ago (1 child) This is why all of my open source projects, and https://port87.com/, have a no-ai policy. I will never let AI slop touch my code base. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago Speaking of Port87, I wish their pricing to storage ratio were more competitive.
