I meant after basic survival needs have been met. Obviously food, water, shelter are more important. But humans are hard wired to feel a sense of some hygiene, though you wouldn't know it from some people.

    We don't like to feel icky, for sure, but the scope for what we consider "icky" narrows a lot when we're trying to survive.

    True, and a beard can be useful to break up the visual lines that the human brain identifies as a face. It'd only be a part of the overall camouflage profile, but if it's already 1/3 done for you, it's a win. But I can't stand my beard getting that long. It's like wearing a steel wool sweater to me.

    Edit: not just human brain, animal brain.

    The utility of facial hair is modest. It has potential for sure! But first let's have dinner.
