When Graham appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program afterward, she attempted to recover by pivoting from her lack of national security knowledge to transgender athletes, as The Advocate reported.

“Of course, Taiwan is our friend,” Graham said. “But I think people in South Carolina are more worried about making ends meet. They are concerned about boys in girls’ sports.”

Trump continued that strategy Friday by making transgender people a central part of his argument for Graham. He attacked Andrews as a “far-left political hack who supports transgender for everybody” and accused her of telling “confused children they’re trapped in the wrong body.”

...

Trump may have conflated those medical procedures with agreements his Justice Department has forced on two major hospital systems. Those settlements require Texas Children’s Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic to establish or fund services for people who voluntarily seek to detransition. They do not order hospitals to perform surgery on anyone.

In May, Texas Children’s agreed to pay the state $10 million, end gender-affirming care for minors and establish what federal officials called the country’s first “restorative care” clinic for detransitioners. The Houston hospital also agreed to terminate five physicians connected to its transgender health program and permanently revoke their privileges, as The Advocate reported.

MAGA thinks they smell blood in the water on the trans issue, so that's their chosen wedge issue for the foreseeable future. I'm the past it was abortion, flag burning, kneeling, gay adoption, gay marriage, gay gayness, etc.

The proper answer to any trans nonsense is: "I am not a doctor, and I won't presume to interfere with the medical decisions between any patient and their doctor, on any subject. I have absolutely no opinions on this subject, and do not consider it an appropriate subject for a political discussion. It is an appalling and indefensible political strategy to use any medical issue as a political talking point, so I'm not interested in your opinion either."

That works for ANY medical issue, including abortion.

I asked my idiot aunt (who won't admit to being a Trump supporter but is) why can't politicians leave medical decisions to medical professionals. She said medical professionals can't be trusted because they work for the government. That's how fucking stupid she is. We need the government to intervene in medical decisions because we can't trust professionals who work for the government

This type of thinking is just ingrained in Americans. It's why the "sewer socialism" of Mamdani style politics is so important right now.

Americans are not use to having a government that actually functions. Their relationship with it is rightly defined by its exploitation of the working class in the interest of capital. Though they can't really define it as such. But this "anit government" part is correct in a way. It's just only answered with the wrong conclusion. That "less government and more private corporations freedom is the answer". It's the only answer they get in the media.

Fortunately, the bar for a "functioning government" is so low that even something as simple as the "pothole socialism" we've seen make Mamdani MORE popular is giving people a waking.

"Wait, government can actually do something to help me?"

It's a lost concept; and I think even someone like your aunt could be shaken out of this type of thinking if they actually experienced it first hand.

She has the right right frustrations. It's your job to direct he to the answer that you can show her materially improves her life. She's just distracted be the false conclusion. She has the correct frustration though.

Aren't most medical professionals in the US working for private companies?

They tried the anti-trans bs in VA last year and got fucking destroyed by spanberger. Liberals and moderates don't care about it anymore. The magat trash are getting more and more detached from reality by the day, and that says a lot, because they've always been detached from reality.

Nah. I think instead we should double down and start promising scientific studies (in a couple weeks) will confirm our hypothesis on autism. We should definitely start fear mongering over vaccines and continue blaming doctors and trans people. /s

    Fucking RFK this week.

Yeah, I’ve just decided I’m not taking the bait anymore. If they want to circle jerk about trans people, I have more important things to do, like, literally anything else. Trans stuff affects me 0% of any given day and I’ve never felt the need to police a bathroom or verify the gender of an athlete.

I cannot fucking believe our country is so mired in this absolute non-issue for 99.999% of the population.

I'm still just shocked that you'll see people say it is their "#1 issue" - like Megyn Kelly on Maher for instance - I saw some Republican say it again about some constituent recently, too.

If you are not trans or a parent of a trans, I don't see how that is even possible to be so ridiculous, but the right always delivers on being disgusting, horrible and ridiculously hateful.

For everyone else - I guess we all have to suffer because the worst people in the world have decided to prioritize this over: clean air, clean water, climate change, upgrading to green energy, health care, education, science and tech leadership, safe streets, a job with rights and dignity that can support an entire family with one income, caring for the sick and the elderly with dignity, mental care, upgrading infrastructure, including mass transit, and on and on and on...

Instead, the conservatives are fixated on the stupidest possible shit. They are wilding the fuck out about Jefferson County having 60 men in women's sports, a thing that isn't even a thing.

Meanwhile, all of us are suffering out here from all kinds of shit that have nothing to do with fucking sportsball or the right's stupid ideas about "gender ideology".

I knew we were going to be hearing about this shit endlessly for two reasons, though - for one, they kept going on about how Michelle Obama really had a dong - sure it was a stupid conspiracy theory, but you could tell that many of them wanted that to somehow invalidate Obama's administration because they view it as something that should be a crime. The other was the flurry of bathroom bill bullshit starting up nearly immediately after the conservatives lost the gay marriage issue in 2015.
