I despise CGI in films, but would be more interested in watching this than another Hollywood "blockbuster"

    this is like saying you hate chicken because you got a meal that was just a boiled chicken breast and some macaroni.
    You're probably seeing tons of GCI in the things you like, you just don't realize it because the GCI is actually good.
