"Oh, this is calamity! Calamity! Oh no, he's on the floor!"
Welcome to MoG!
Meanwhile On Grad
Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome!
What is a Tankie?
Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.
(caution of biased source)
Basic Rules:
Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.
Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.
Apologia — (Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether it be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.
Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users, as it handwaves their extremism.
Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in arguments that lack mutual agreement.
Brigading/Trolling — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from maliciously voting, commenting, or manipulating the post in any way. This includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be banned. Good-faith and honest communication is an exception.
Tankies can explain their views, but may be criticised or challenged for them. Any minor infraction of the rules may result in a warning and possibly a temporary ban.
You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically last only 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction doubles the duration. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.
If anything, orcs don't deserve being compared to russians.
'> complains about being banned for bigotry
'> claims that an entire nationality is worse than a fantasy shorthand for inherently and irredeemably evil species
I think the mods got it right dude.
Maybe that entire nationality shouldn't exhibit exclusively traits of an inherently and irredeemably evil species.
MLs are banning everyone who disagrees with their narrative regardless of rules, and you know it.
That's straight up racism bro
I wasn't aware russian is a separate race now
Don't collectively condemn Russians just because their government and most of their boomers suck.
Like there are a lot of Russians who hate the current situation. But Russia is at a point that speaking out means prison.
My life is literally at risk just by me living and working in Ukraine. Forgive me if I don't have much sympathy for russians living their lives safely and funding the terrorism with their taxes.
You think many Russians voluntarily joined the military? A lot of them were forced to join the military and there are many political prisoners who protested Putin who were sent to their deaths because they were forced into the military.
Holy crap dude.
Way to move the goalposts. I'm talking about the majority of the population that doesn't give a shit about Ukraine or anything outside of their cozy little lives. The ones that only say something when it personally inconveniences them. The ones that watch their husbands, brothers and sons get killed in a senseless war and move on with their lives, content with the scraps putin throws them.
Even if it is 90% of the population, it is still shit to lump the remaining 10% in with them.
The remaining 10% are already out of the country and/or contributing to various anarchist organizations. You know full well I'm not lumping those in.
I see you lumping all Russians in in your rhetoric. And we are only speaking of those in the country. There are also millions in former Soviet satellite states. That is why being nuanced is important.
And if you meant not all of them, you made no effort to specify.
Nuanced, then. I condemn all russians who are still proud of being russian, indifferent to the actions of their government and military, and supporting their terrorism financially via taxes. That's makes up about 99% of them. And the remainder would fully share my anger and grief, since they have to look at the 99% of indifferent shitheads go about their daily lives and whine about gas station queues.
Maybe, maybe not, but in this case you are pretty clearly breaking their rules about no bigotry, and then doubling down on it repeatedly.
So once again, they definitely got it right this time.
I'd also point out that this type of rhetoric is an excellent way to make Russian propaganda against the west seem accurate.
Me? That's not even my post, my guy. Though I agree with OP. Anyone who directly or indirectly supports the terrorist nation (including by inaction) more than deserves to be called an orc and worse.
Directly and indirectly, including through inaction, huh? So pretty much every baby in the world is a literal manifestation of evil or worse.
I rarely take claims of russophobia seriously. You sir are a russophobe.
You sir must be a really good farmer with how quickly you build strawmen.
You instantly zero in on anything you can stretch into "bigotry" that is directed against russia but ignore blatant systemic bigotry in support of them. If pointing that out makes me a russophobe, then I'm clearly not trying hard enough.
Wtf is "systemic bigotry in support of Russia"? Are you talking about Russian propaganda? Yeah, that's common. Spreading around is a pretty defining feature of propaganda.
Because claiming that an entire nationality is fundamentally and irredeemably evil is pretty clearly bigotry.
This is you claiming all citizens are military targets
Is it?
You're saying civilians count as military targets because they may have undergone military training, yes.
Did I claim that they are all inherently and incorrigibly evil?
Edit: Ukraine is quite clearly in the right in this situation, and they are justified in using whatever military means possible to achieve the following two war goals:
And yes, civilians (Russia also has a draft, but it's a bit easier to cheat I think) will die in the process. It's war. Shit happens.
The only way Ukraine can become the bad guy in this situation is if they meet both of the above conditions, and then seek to continue an offensive war. This becomes a lot easier when you see your enemy not as a simple enemy, but as literally demonic evil. Which is what "orc" refers to both in fantasy and history. Soldiers, those directly involved in the war effort, I get that. Still not a fan, but that's at least a direct enemy. Every Russian ever? No.
edit2: You will note that this is what Israel did. They removed Hamas from within their territory (with some details, Assume gaza/west bank ain't theirs), and then went on an offensive war to grab land. You will also note the sheer amount of dehumanizing rhetoric pointed at Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria that allowed this to happen.
no you claimed that civilians count as military targets if they have undergone military training
Oh, well then that's just entirely irrelevant to the topic of bigotry, isn't it?
That's just you digging through my entire posting history looking for reasons. Classy. You happen to wear meta/perv glasses? You're giving me that vibe.
He caught you being a hypocrite my guy. The Schrodinger's civilian line is straight up bigotry. You're judging Israelis by a different criteria than other human beings and dehumanizing them in order to make the argument that it is acceptable to target civilians as long as they are Israeli. You're not willing to grant Israelis the same rights that you would grant to the civilian population of any other country, such as Russia; i.e., you are bigoted towards Israelis.
What part of that phrase is a specifically anti-israeli slur that implies all Israelis are inherently evil?
Because Russia also has a draft. Schrodinger's civilian applied to their little green men before 2022, too.
Stating that civilians should be acceptable as military targets is worse than calling them evil lol
Call me evil all you want, but at least give me the courtesy of not trying to kill me if I don't have any military relevance. Even the Nazis received that courtesy
I see.
Well, civilians are going to keep dying regardless on every side. Almost like dehumanizing language makes it feel okay to push the button.
