    It would be a hard sell to make me believe the police didn't know what was going on here. They're playing innocent in a difficult situation at best.

    No they didn’t. The point of these laws is exactly what has happened in this article. It’s to force trans people in general to make an impossible choice and be pushed out of existing in public society. There is literally nothing about these laws that is expected to improve anyone’s safety - that’s just the cynical rhetoric used to stop liberals objecting.
