Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

By calling it sin, you oppress the people.
Fuck you for choosing death.
How many more suicides do you think there will be this year alone?
How do you explain the resurrection of Christ?
Very simple, there is no christ. Jesus died and we don't have his body. This is not uncommon for the time. Even if the story about the empty tomb is true, an empty tomb does not prove a resurrection.
"But there were hundreds of witnesses"... according to one witness. We don't have hundreds of accounts of the resurrection. We have a few, and they disagree with each other.
FACT 1: A Jewish Rabbi named Jesus of Nazareth was killed by crucifixion in the first century by Roman executioners.
FACT 2: Jesus’ followers had real experiences after Jesus’ death that they believed were appearances of Jesus, risen from the dead.
FACT 3: Jesus’ followers’ lives were transformed as a result of this belief—even to the point of being willing to die for their belief in His resurrection.
FACT 4: James and Paul – both enemies of Jesus’ message – came to believe in Jesus’ resurrection and became Christians as a result. Both claimed the reason was that Jesus spoke to them after His death.
FACT 5: Jesus was buried in a tomb in Jerusalem which was found empty shortly after His death.
these are a series of facts most historians agree with
The body being stolen and the disciples lying cannot be true due to facts 4, 2 and 3
hallucination theories are proven false due to fact 4 and 5
Jesus "didnt really die" theories are disproven due to fact 1 and 4
Sure, I think something like this happened based on available evidence, though it is scant.
This is not a fact. This is a claim made long after Jesus died. But maybe they believed magic happened, sure.
Some people flew planes into buildings, dying for their beliefs. Does that make them true?
What happened at Jonestown? Many more people died there, does that make it more true?
Maybe they missed their pal and thought about him a lot.
Sure.
None of which suggest the existence of magic. Jesus was a cult leader, and his cult was repurposed to suit someone else's agenda.
Yes, both can still be true. People steal bodies, even shortly after death, especially if he was a popular or famous person. People cling to false beliefs even if it kills them, sometimes.
No, still perfectly possible.
I find this one unlikely anyway, but it is possible he had a double killed in his place. I suspect he really did die. I have no reason to believe he or anyone else was resurrected after 3 days.
alright
This is a fact
He turned fishermen into scholars and philosophers and theologians. Their lives were radically transformed
I'm not sure you get this. This is like Donald Trump waking up one day, disbanding ICE, apologizing for his actions, turning himself in for those crimes and putting welfare above warfare.
Alright
If Jesus and his followers were lying, James and Paul would've been the PERFECT semi-biased-against-them investigators. But they investigated and converted.
If it was a hallucination, why would his tomb be empty and james and paul converted after investigation?
No, it is not. The fact is that they made a claim. What they claimed is evidently not factual.
They followed a cult leader and got themselves killed for false beliefs. You think that's a good outcome?
I'm not sure you get this. It doesn't matter how much people like a guy, that doesn't make him correct.
They were fooled like the others. Jesus's message was hypocritical, dangerous, and stupid, but he was evidently very persuasive.
These are three separate things.
The tomb may not have been empty at all, we cannot verify historically. But if it was, I find it more likely that someone took the body than that a dead man came back to life after so much time.
Hallucinations may happen independently of whether the tomb was empty or not. Believers may have imagined Jesus, or dreamed about him, or hallucinated while on some kind of drug. It's also possible look-alikes claimed to be him, or (unlikely) Jesus faked his own death and appeared to them himself. It's also possible the claims are simply false, we have no way of verifying. I find all of these explanations more likely than a miraculous resurrection.
As for James and Paul, it only shows that they were convinced, not that the resurrection was true. And how do we know Jesus appeared to James? Because Paul said so? It's also worth noting that Paul's teachings deviate from and conflict with Jesus's. Whatever he saw, it likely was not the same character we read about in the gospels.
Paul's experience may be consistent with symptoms of temporal lobe epilepsy: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1032067/
Their beliefs were not false.
James and Paul were basically skipping to get a CHANCE at disproving Christianity and they converted after investigating
His message was not even one of those things except dangerous (to the pharisees and rome). James and Paul converted after Jesus had been crucified, so how could they be convinced unless the risen Jesus came to them?
500 people hallucinated the same thing at once?
According to you. That's why I said "evidently". There is no evidence for those claims.
They were lied to like everyone else.
Seizures. Liars. Some guy could have shown up and said "it's me, the risen Jesus. Here's how you can serve me going forward."
It is a dangerous message to all life because it is untrue. It's a death cult.
No. We don't have 500 eyewitness accounts. We have one guy (who made have had a medical problem) claiming there were 500 eyewitnesses. We don't even have James's account of seeing Jesus, do we?
and why would Christ himself, if he was speaking falsehood, not say "I'm not God" before the pharisees and be pardoned? Why was he actually willing to endure inhumane torture instead of copping out?
Magic isn't real, dumbass dipshit.
Source for literally any miracle?
Source for literally any god?
Fucking none. Real people die for your false beliefs. FUCKFACE.
Maybe, or just close enough, or Paul imagined it, or Paul made it up.
Zero evidence that this took place.
Fuckface: by proclaiming himself christ, he is speaking falsehood. But he might not realize that he is lying because he's fucking delusional.
He was either huffing his own farts or trolling.
Because he's an idiot who didn't think it would go that far.
Why did he say, "my god, why have you forsaken me" if it was part of his plan and also he was god?
No we don't. We have Paul claiming there were 500 witnesses. Can you name 499 more?
What about the other Gospels?
The Bible/ witness accounts of the women
He is not
"Trolling" to bear inhumane torture?
He could've copped out ANY moment if he was speaking falsehood. No one had an agreeing testimony and he couldve just said so
and to fulfill the Old Testament
They contradict each other.
If the account is even true, they found an empty grave.
You want to pretend that them being women lends more credence because (quite sexistly) the opinions of women were not valued as much back then, but actually it just makes sense they would be first because women were responsible for tending graves.
You're just making shit up as it suits you.
Fuck yourself.
No, dumb fuck. He was a short-sighted idiot high on his own farts.
Right, he was as dangerously delusional as you are.
You keep saying that like it means anything. He's fulfilling slave rape?
It's all bullshit, you stupid coward.
A song for you. https://snoopsqueak.com/video/102
Also, the old testament is in preparation for Christ, and he fulfilled it when he came down and was crucified
they do not
Jesus revealed himself to be risen to Mary Magdelene, a woman first.
Im really not
He could've copped out any SECOND but he chose to bear the torture. No one had agreeing testimony against him and he couldve just walked out
No one has any idea what the christos is, was, where it came from, where it went and what it all meant.
We don't know if the word was even flesh.
You can just read a little 66 book bible and pretend it's history.
