If extraterrestrials exist, and they have some kind of FTL to travel between stars, then they are most likely some kind of comrades. Only through a mutually cooperative social structure would a species be able to achieve such capabilities.
Now if they are actually interested in studying our star system is a whole other matter. The best guess would be that they are probably not if they have come to know much at all about our species and its behavior on our planet.
These are the basic concepts of Posadism (sans the nuclear apocalypse stuff). If we want aliens to consider talking to us, we need to improve our relations with each other and all the other life forms on our planet. Only if we can achieve some form of global comradely relations will they maybe think it worth their time to interact with us.
