The hatred for Argentina is getting out of hand (lemmygrad.ml)

After this world cup, Argentina is being seen as a unique evil, and it's getting more racist and xenophobic. People don't know a single thing about Argentina but Argentinians are all being painted as racist and zionists, and some Argentinian players being violent is apparently the fault of the entire team or even the whole of Argentina. Argentinians are described as uniquely violent. This was not the response after Zidane's headbutt, or Nigel de Jong's karate kick in 2010. Some people are even calling for banning Argentina from the next football world cup. If I was Argentinian I would not feel safe in Europe. I saw a video of Argentinian fans getting beat up by Spain supporters in Spain after the final. Europeans and North Americans are just projecting their own racism onto Argentina and are using that to excuse being racist to Argentinians.

So if you meet an Argentinian, be extra nice to them. And if you're Argentinian: Te apoyamos

On the day of the final, I saw a group of Argentinians having an Asado in a local park, and when I left the park I saw another Argentinian wearing their jersey, probably going to the Asado, and I told him 'Vamos Argentina'. To which he replied 'Gracias'. It sounded like he was not used to hear this support.

Edit: But I don't deny the racism in Argentina at all. My problem is that Argentina's racism is being used as an excuse by North Americans and Europeans to project their own racism problems onto Argentina and to bet racist against them, also impacting the Argentinians that aren't racist

Let's not generalize the soccer fan base. I would say each fanbase have their own dynamics, some are more progressive than others, some have some complicated nuanced racist traits (they call the adversary team black players as monkeys, but praise and adore their own black idols). Some are staunch reactionaries while other are progressive in an unbelievable way.

In Brazil, for example, we have the Corinthian fan-base which was the home of Socrates, one of the most based and politicized Brazilian soccer players (and a genius with the ball), who promoted the "Corinthian democracy", a kind of participatory democracy for the fan base, almost managing the club like it was a worker council. While the Corinthian fan base has participated in many violent acts against other fanbases, they have often been seen in protests being the hardliners against cops and protecting the protestors.

Same with teams in reactionary states, like Paraná. The Coritiba fanbase beat the shit out of the Bolsonaristas that were blocking the road prior to the failed Bolsonaro coup on January 8th. Although many of the Coritba fans were Bolsonaro supporters, their fanaticism to the Coritiba came first, way above their love for Bolsonaro, and the result was in beating the shit out of them and making them undo the roadblocks so they wouldn't lose a game.

In Argentina, I think the Estudiantes fanbase is the most progressive, while in some places like Ireland, the Celtic fanbase were pretty much based.
