I said it before in the Iran War thread, but I'll briefly say it again. The real enemy here is the US and the capitlist control over FIFA, who are auding the US in their propaganda effort. The image of Argentines currently being cultivated is a conscious construction by fascist elements of Argentina and US imperialists. They want to separate Argentine identity from its actual material reality of being a Global South country, and obfuscate it as a part of the white imperialist world.
With that being said, I think it's a bit of a stretch to imply that Argentina isn't racist. It's a settler colony along with the rest of the Western hemisphere, just because the population are not as violently extremist as the US Settler colonialist doctrine doesn't remove that fact. In reality, the fascist elements of Argentina absolutely adore the racism of the US, and much of the white liberal elite in Argentina have less successfully attempted to implement those same policies in Argentina.
I don't quite understand why some Argentines try to point to US bigotry as a proof that they're being singled out for racism. The ruling bigots of the US are directly responsible for fermenting racism in Argentina by supporting the most disgusting of comprodors like Milei. They aren't separate at all, but closely linked.
Even historically, the settler colonial elite of Argentina based their racial theories on the model of the US founding fathers.
The racism of Argentina is sustained by the whims of the US, and I think it's fair to say that as long as Argentina is under the thumb of the US and isn't able to remove their influence, then Argentine racism will continue to grow and become more vitriolic.
A lucid and cogent argument. How can we stand together as a barrier to class politics when we continue to engage in identity politics?
This isn't to say racism isn't important, because it is, and we can and should address it among ourselves and root it out of our midst. It is too say we should recognize it as a favorite wedge used by those who would break our unity.
Thank you for this comment. I should've mentioned the racist history and present because I can understand why people thought I was brushing over it, even if that wasn't my intention. And I agree that it's a settler colony with racism being normalized through their upper class and by the USA. Argentina needs a revolution after which they will try to learn to deal with their past and combat settler supremacy.
