There's a power struggle over the narrative when it comes to cheating in elections. Gerrymandering, voter ID, vote harvesting, automatic voting machines, mail in ballots. They either benefit one party slightly more than the other inherently or because there is greater opportunity for fraud, simply because of voter demographics and mobilization. This turns into pearl clutching over saving democracy and so on. There is some truth to ask of it, but mostly it's the power struggle over the narrative.
