I'd also found https://www.myabandonware.com/game/mechwarrior-2-31st-century-combat-34i and also a portable MW2 that some redditor put together.

    It’s been a while since I downloaded it, not sure. I just know it’s out there for $0 in various corners of the web.

    No worries, I'm sure one of these will work. The myabandonware.com link includes the manual and I believe the DOS version was the best so I'll give that a go once I've dug out my joystick.
