Be honest. You mean that he simply didn't mention the genocide at all because no one dared touch the subject beyond surface level uncontroversial chit chat.
Fortunately there exists polling data from Israel on the subject of Gaza and Palestinians so we don't have to rely on anecdotes like yours to gauge which way the wind blows in that country.
