Not entirely true, Peter Boyle was funny even in Raymond. I remember an episode where they're repainting the house and somebody says something to Frank about needing ventilation because of the fumes. He responds by giving the bucket of paint a good stir and then huffing the fumes like he's smelling a pot of stew while making direct eye contact and grinning.
