Yeah but cassettes were still around. Unless you had mini CDs, cassettes were the way to go if you wanted music in your pocket.

I still gave my trusty cassette player from back then. Still works great, and sound is quite good for something that old.

Well, it has some features you don't see anymore on "modern" cassettes players (DTS, Dolby, things like that), all in a miniaturized and portable case.

I had my first portable mp3 player by that year.

That I don't remember getting until about 06. But the coolest thing about the one I got, it had two parts. The first part was the main body where you put your headphones jack. The second part connected to the first with a standard USB port, and that was where the flash storage was. So it was basically a bog standard USB drive, you plug it into your computer, load MP3s on it, and plug it back into the player. If a whole 64 MEGABYTES wasn't enough for you, you could just carry multiple sticks. Genius design, wish I still had that thing.

Oh hell yeah, found a picture online. Before the iPod, this was considered chic.

A Creative brand MP3 player, circa 2005. The main housing holds into a glorified USB stick that you can load songs into with your computer.

Nice! Mine was the RCA Lyra RD1080.

128 MB, and that control stick crapped out quickly.

I still have mine. It has an FM receiver and runs off a AAA battery, so it's handy for listening to the radio for updates during a big power outage.
