Millions of international travelers are increasingly choosing to avoid the United States.

The United States had roughly 4 million fewer international visitors in 2025 than the year before, marking a 5.5 percent decline in overseas tourism, according to CNN. Foreign visitor spending also fell by more than $8 billion.

Aside from the collapse in travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, it represents the sharpest annual drop in international tourism in roughly 20 years.

A bit shocked that 94.5% are still visiting?

For what it's worth, places have had to resort to some crazy deals. I've heard of places in Vegas offering to take Canadians' dollars at par. The exchange rate right now is 1.38 CAD to 1 USD, so that's a pretty absurd discount.

I value my soul and/freedom, so not for me but cheap bastard that I am, I was kinda tempted.

Still doesn't change that Vegas is unaffordable, even in US$.

To each their own. It's not my idea of fun but it's a fairly common bachelor party, crazy weekend etc.

It's a party vacation and a fairly common destination, not just for the uber wealthy. Plenty of middle class folks head there.

I'll never forget that glorious period when $1USD = $1CAD = €1. If the USA wasn't being such a jerk, we could've unified to one world currency then and there.

but isnt vegas still expensive asf, unless they lower the prices, it isnt going to matter.

[-] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 1 points 9 hours ago

They've effectively lowered the prices by 38% for Canadians. That's an absurd discount. Yes, Vegas has always been pricy but it's damn near half off now. If you're the type who is on the fence about it, that's a huge change.

The numbers are comparing 24 to 25 and I’m guessing that a lot of international travel is planned more than a few months in advance. Really big trips may be planned a year in advance. My memory is fuzzy but I don’t think we got to the “oh, shit! They’re locking up random white middle class tourists from the EU, maybe I’ll just take the loss on that non-refundable airbnb deposit“ until maybe last fall?

But you’re right that the numbers are still way too damn high. As a USian I have a lot of be ashamed of and yeah, we should be rioting in the streets but people in real countries shouldn’t get too smug if they can’t even give up Disney World, Jim Beam and Twitter.

Don't underestimate how much the general population just does not give a fuck about anything but themselves. They wanted that Vegas trip and are either blissfully unaware of current events or they're aware and just don't care, maybe a part of them even agrees with it all..

vegas has thier own problems that occurred way before trump returned to the WH. VEGAS is just circling the drain to the abyss. its interesting how conservatives from LA area moved there thinking just because of no income tax, means they keep more money. but arnt aware the state doesnt really have much of a good health, or education system.

Some people definitely agree with the xenophobia. That sort of anti immigrant ideology is on the rise outside of the US too. They might not like Trump but also not quite fully disagree with what the MAGA people stand for.

I mean ffs people are now finally getting sick of Trump, but not because the damage they've done with deportation but because they're spending money on war and food and gas prices went up as a direct result. Some of the people that are anti Trump these days just care about their bottom line.

That's cause, like, they totally need stuff.
