Yeah! I totally agree.
I can't speak for anybody but myself, but watching this came as a bit of a shock to my system and really shined a spotlight on that 2D animation-shaped hole in my heart that had been carved out by the feature film industry's shift to 3D.
I don't really have any negative feelings towards 3D; I do appreciate the technological advancements that've been made possible by the shift, and there have been incredible works of art and labor that wouldn't have existed without those new advancements... but it's also amazing to see the heights that could be achieved by marrying classic 2D animation techniques with the flexibility and convenience that modern hardware and software can enable.
Yes, there's a lot of 2D animation still out there, but the majority of it is on TV and its modern equivalents, where quality and artistry are limited (by necessity, admittedly) due to a dearth of time and budget. That's not to say that they are bad animations - it's pretty plain to see that great animation still exists, especially in places like anime, but even then, the line and motion economy is such a different vibe compared to the lush art direction, detailed character/bg design, and fluid animation that we can see in this music video, which used to be so much more common back in 2D's heyday.
Anyway, it's late over here so I'm starting to ramble and lose track of what I'm saying, so I'll stop this here. But yes, I agree with you, haha.
