[–] Bustedknuckles@lemmy.world 97 points 3 months ago (4 children) We now have a basically "whites-only" refugee program. How did racism win? permalink fedilink source hideshow 8 child comments replies: [–] DillDough@lemmy.zip 88 points 3 months ago (3 children) Because for some reason everyone always collectively agrees that it's absolutely unacceptable to ever punish racists. Didn't happen for the Confederacy, or for the lynchers, or the anti civil rights adults who attacked children for simply attempting to attend school, not the actual Nazis or the American Nazi party nor it's predecessor (look that one up). Everyone collectively agrees we must punish everyday people for everyday crimes but never ever can we even consider punishment for the richest and most powerful commiting the most heinous crimes at national or even global scale...no that would be too "cruel", so we must allow them to fester and destroy every bit of progress our species ever makes no matter how many millions of us had to die for that centimeter of progress. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] podian@piefed.social 12 points 3 months ago (2 children) Sounds like the US needs something like a "guillotine phase" in its national history and collective consciousness to address this. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] DillDough@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 months ago (1 child) Guillotines would be too little too late imo.
