Apparently @rimu@piefed.social is on a crusade to rid the reddit alternatives of memes? https://lem.lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/42212552/20349769

Now, I know one of the reasons Piefed exists and has had success is down to how people don't like the political views of the main Lemmy devs.

That said, I've gotta be honest, the personal opinions of the Piefed dev seem to have a much more tangible impact on the software than the other guys. This is definitely not the first instance of subjective default post filtering being built into the software.

Given the demographics of the fediverse I'm surprised this kind of clandestine moderation hasn't had more of a pushback.

These sorts of issues are precisely why I didn’t move to Piefed.

Lemmy devs are…well, notorious. But as far as I can tell their opinions aren’t baked into the software the way PF’s seems to be.

Piefed feels too much like a Reddit clone with its moderation style and vote/“reputation” counting for my tastes. For the people who like it there, more power to them.

Maybe communists aren’t as “authoritarian” as people like Rimu claim, and maybe people like Rimu aren’t as anti-authority as they claim.

Piefed brings in the worst of reddit and manages to find a way to impower assholes in the name of better moderation. Basically anyone who doesn't act like rimu wants get punished and those who go against the hive mind are punished.

This is all separate from issues like rimu finding ways to not respect the federation standards by just making up their own responses

Yeah the one "controversy" with Lemmy's code was they used to have a hard coded slur filter. Like thats it.

[-] davel@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 month ago

And that feature is disabled by default instead of enabled as with PieFed.

part of the fun is figuring out what the slur was. lol
