QAA interviewed Ben Collins the CEO of The Onion about the situation 2 days ago and the way he described it, before The Onion started doing this stunt noone was going to outbid Jones from purchasing back the property. He was gonna lowball and just get everything back anyways. I have no idea if he's [Ben] just selling himself and the Onion big. He also mentioned the families are not entirely enthusiastic about what they're doing, but not disapproving it and The Onion is trying to win them over and convince them the only way they're going to get anything out of this is through whatever money Tim and The Onion manage to make through this.

I also saw Tim Heidecker talking to Sam Seder about it and he seemed very flustered but enthusiastic about the situation and intimated that alot of this stuff is very up in the air right now.
