Every leftist, when asked if/why we support China or any AES state, should simply say "I don't support them, I like them. Unless the power of my opinion is some kind of real prayer, it makes exactly 0 difference"
Do more praxis.
Organizing my local fishers' community and proclaiming "In the name of Xi!" like a medieval herald
Look, I was trying to be playful in my first response but I'm watching this get up votes so I'm just gonna be blunt. If you feel the need to say this, perhaps you're better off just not calling yourself a leftist? Solidarity is a core concept of being leftist and if even the aesthetics of supporting AES states to a fucking
is that much of a burden, maybe being "leftist" isn't for you?
Just hold the line, hexbear. It's not rocket science.
You're right, to the extent that one can exercise solidarity and be materially useful to the interests of the working classes of the entire world, one should do so. And there are real material links between helping organize and advance the positions of workers in, say, Guatemala, and the project of Chinese socialism. We shouldn't shy away from saying as such, so yes, my previous message is not universally correct. It is correct in the context of raising money for Palestinians and someone interjecting with "you guys support Chinese authoritarianism though" because in that context, it really is salient and relevant to say that nothing Hexbear has done as a community materially^[By "materially," in the loose way I'm using it in this sentence, I roughly mean to that extent and in the same order of significance of the previously stated fundraising drive] impacts China.
I appreciate your acknowledgement, but hard disagree at this. Because at that point you've now engaged in their propagation of harmful stereotypes and have ceded the point to them. "Oh, you say so and so beats his wife? Well I don't support him, but I still like him." Fine you're not contributing to impacting them materially, but you are now contributing to harming them. Debatable whether we need to be directly engaging with these assholes at all, but if you are it sure as hell shouldn't be to appease them. Our job as leftist is to set an example and build the future. Not getting all wishy washy so the libs like us.
I’m gonna be real I unironically and uncritically support everything China does, because even despite their current deficiencies, it is the one last hope for civilization in the world
