What's up with Ontario and the Fords? (vargar.org)

Doug Ford keeps on getting reelected, his brother was the mayor of Toronto despite the drugs and overall unseriousness... I mean why do people elect these guys? Is it for the memes and laughs?

I'm being totally serious when I ask this btw. What does the average Doug voter's rationale for getting this guy in office? Same with former Rob Ford voters. Who voted for Rob Ford? Why?

Edit: TLDR of the answers seem to be:

  • Horrible effect of fptp, vote split between liberals, ndp and the greens
  • Low voter turnout

    We could ask the same question about the beetrooter, Angus Taylor, Pauline Hanson or any number of openly corrupt, mostly incompetent conservative politicians. I'm not from NSW but holy hell that Barilaro idiot seems like a real corrupt piece of shit but still managed to convince one of the richest states in the nation to make him Premier.

    I suppose we could, but Ford and his brother stand out.

    Hanson is probably the closest match.

    I’m still trying to work out how Joyce manages to hold his seat, it’s incredible.

    I'm in Ontario myself and it's mind-boggling but it's partially because his voters stick any negatives on the federal Liberal party and any positives on Ford. Ford has been completely gutting our provincial public healthcare system but a Conservative upset about hospitals shutting down or whatever will just direct all that anger towards Mark Carney (or non-white immigrants...)

    Yeah see with the US and Australia, maybe the Old Dart, the dipshittery seems to be spread out a bit.

    In Canada it looks as if the problems confined to Ontario and these two who stand out like a carbuncle on the back of your leg. I don’t know though, I’m not Canadian so I could be missing others.
