There is nothing shocking about this. What is surprising is why the hell aren't local police not arresting their asses. ICE has shown they do not give a fuck about the well being of police officers and treat them like they are inferior. ICE is no match for the police department of any city.

[-] 4grams@awful.systems 23 points 1 month ago

it's because the police support ice. acab

[-] Sine_Fine_Belli@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Not all cops bastards but too many cops are bastards

[-] 4grams@awful.systems 10 points 1 month ago

Just like all generalizations, there are of course exceptions. But I’m still not giving any of them the benefit of the doubt, cops are an enemy as far as I’m concenered.

[-] rarsamx@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago

There aren't exceptions when the "good cops" are turning a blind eye on the "bad apples".

I mean, I had an uncle who was a good guy. He ended up quitting the force and bought a boat to sail around the world. He was a decent one.

There are always outliers, so I have no doubt there are some decent folks who joined to make an actual difference. There might even be a few who managed to hold onto that drive. But they are part of a corrupt system, peered with power hungry morons. So I have no compunction saying that all cops are bastards.

Every group has outliers, it’s the sycophants who will always try to point out the minuscule good in the sea of evil as a means to whitewash the black stains. We aren’t stupid, we know that acab doesn’t mean every single cop walks I lockstep, it’s an observation of the system as a whole.

Your bastard uncle was rewarded with a cool boat and chill retirement for holding the rest of us at gunpoint. Fuck him.

[-] 4grams@awful.systems 1 points 1 month ago

I mean, fair enough, I’m not here to defend him, just an example of there being outliers. like I said, I wouldn’t give any of them the benefit of the doubt.

[-] rarsamx@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

How many bad cops he caught. Notice that that's my yardstick.

[-] fodor@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago

Just ask George Floyd.

[-] NeilBru@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

"A few bad apples spoil the bunch."

[-] rarsamx@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago

I originally thought not ACAB, but until the "good cops" start arresting the "bad apples", corrupt, prepotent, wife beaters, drug traffickers, sleazy, etc. I will conclude ACAB.

The only ones who get arrested are those who commit egregious offences that the public are aware of and leadership cannot swipe under the rug. And then the "Investigation" shows that there were already multiple reports of previous wrong doing and that their bosses and other cops already knew.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/elston-bostock-winnipeg-police-constable-pleads-guilty-dealing-drugs-9.7033645

Was he the "bad apple" or was it the whole force which knew what he was doing?

You'd need a police force with zero bad apples for me to believe that not ACAB.

We need to accept that to really fix the situation.

I grew up in mexico where corruption is endemic. One day, my mom was complaining about corruption pointing fingers. I told her that I left mexico because it's impossible to live there without being corrupt. That, if you give money to a corrupt police officer or any other bureaucrat you are corrupt, and most of the time it's not even a choice. If you didn't report wrong doing because "nothing will be done" you are corrupt.

So, It's my observation that ACAB.

I agree with you, well said

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

Currently, ICE outnumbers Minneapolis police by over 2 to 1.
