I dunno what these guys would hate more, being re-educated by someone like you, who in their worldview is supposed to be on their side, or by a stereotypical Bolshevik woman, dressed like the scary Soviet women in all those awful Cold War spy movies, who hates them all from day one and knows and expects that they hate her.

"Let's get this out of the way. You don't like me, and I don't like you. You don't want to learn anything on this curriculum, and I don't want to be here teaching it to you dunderheads. But unfortunately, the Party has decided that we have to do this. So let's be efficient about this and not waste each other's time."

    There's a pragmatic question of pedagogy here. It's funny to think about the Soviet femme fatale ruining their lives until they learn to genuinely be grateful to her for it, but what I have unfortunately found works to my advantage is that these fuckers don't put up the same brain worm defense mechanisms when I talk to them as somebody who they've been trained to disregard or violently reject on sight. When they're not frothing at the mouth with rage, I can actually start to make some sense to them, and they'll nod along in agreement as I start talking about socialist talking points. That's what they've been trained to do when people like me speak and socialist talking points actually fucking make sense, go figure.

    It's stupid and gross, but these fascists literally just won't listen to POC or queer folks or women. The part of their brains filled with a playlist of hateful shit not different at all from the things that you read in 19th century European race science and philosophy begins running all the greatest hits as soon as the wrong kind of person starts speaking. As a first step deworming procedure, it might just be more effective for folks like me to stand up there and give them what they've been trained to accept as a source of authority. It also saves those most harmed from this hatred from being exposed to more of it. Unless someone wanted to volunteer for the job, I don't think those harmed the most by these systems have the same obligation to be a part of the process.

    I regrettably have some personal insight into this dynamic. I was at one point a downwardly economically mobile young white guy who wanted to get laid, so I was susceptible to late 2000s seduction bullshit and later the red pill. To this day it's my biggest regret taking part in those communities, but I'm very aware of how they think. Deprogramming CAN happen, but it's rare the person who can do it themselves. The only reason I got out is because I thought a lot of the big bloggers and early youtubers were kind of bad at making the arguments against feminists, so I should go read feminist literature and do a better job Lmao. I debate bro'd myself out of it, because it turns out if you ACTUALLY READ LEFTIST THEORY instead of straw manning it, you'll just find that it's correct. The dam broke and suddenly I realized they weren't just idiots, they were maliciously straw manning the left because if they didn't their whole project would fall apart and they'd lose their social capital and grift. Long story short, I know how those freaks view people and what kinds of defense mechanisms their parasitic ideology employs. I can sneak past the first layer just by showing up, so why not exploit that advantage? Ya know? Let me go do the back breaking work of tilling the soil so others can come along and plant the seeds.

    While I definitely have a fantasy of being that Bolshevik woman and completely breaking these types in the ways a gulag or reeducation system should, what's really important is to get them to, as you suggest they need, actually read socialist theory.

    And if a man who looks like them pretending on some level to agree with them that this exercise is a stupid state requirement and being friendly and approachable and "good cop", presenting it as "I'm supposed to get you to blindly accept these ideas, but how about we all read through the text and break it down and argue against it?" can get them to read it and realise it's correct, then I'll step aside with my nasty revolutionary terror fantasies and let something that actually works be done instead.

    But if we need some sort of "good cop bad cop" to properly break and rebuild them, I'm sure there's at least a few women and femme presenting folks out there who'd love to live out a Cold War leftist fantasy of being the dangerous Soviet woman McCarthy warned you about, while also being genuinely useful to the peoples' state and to the project of properly educating people who need it. Not sure if I'd actually be good at doing the work that role needs to do, but it's certainly a tempting position.

    I'm gonna push back on this vision as idealism, cathartic though it may be. I'm not seeking to good cop them too hard or pretend to be anything other than what I am. Mao's liberalism communists disdain to hide their views and all that. I just mean that if we want to do anything other than actually torture them for our own sick ends, we should be educating them in a way that gets the job done for the least resources possible. It's unfair to the workers doing the teaching, it's unfair to society to shoulder the burden of paying for their incarceration for any longer than absolutely necessary, and ultimately, it's unfair to the incarcerated to antagonize them any more than necessary. Say what we will about their horrible beliefs, I'm not a retributivist when it comes to justice. We're better than the idealist nonsense that underpins our current justice system and we shouldn't let the ugly motivation of vengeance be the guiding light when engaging here. It should be rehabilitation, and whatever methods we can use to rehabilitate ASAP so they can be lifted to sapience and rejoin society as well adjusted members rather than horrible little gremlins hell bent on harming the historically marginalized. I'd argue this resource minimization is just a socially responsible way to minimize any further damage they can do, directly or indirectly, short of slipping into immoral forms of torture or unproductive and unjustifiable compromise of principles, like your good cop as described.

    I'm just an educator by trade, and consider it part of my duty to reach the reachable as a professional obligation if nothing else. Discussing this with my peers who are POC or women, we widely recognize the type and how frustrating it is that they'll listen to me and not them. None of us like this, it's just a pragmatic matter to some extent, so if we're trying to teach a group of folks and problem makers push back in them I'm brought in as the BAD cop if anything. A punishment or admonishment coming from me gets treated with more consideration than one from my marginalized peer, which might get written off as "that fucking slur hates me because they're incapable of rational thought." Again, terrible though it may be, they don't get to use that line of reasoning on me. The same message coming from my lips can't be written off in the same ways. Surely it can be written off with plenty of other vicious and moronic cope, but their options are more limited, and if they have a predisposition to accept authority from the likes of me why not exploit that to our advantage?

    You should do some reading about how political education actually occurs during reeducation in cuba. The political officer more or less lives with the prisoners and is there to help coach and guide their development. Under ideal conditions, prisoners are to be released within 2 years of joining the political reeducation program. This is a great article that explores the philosophy of the program in Cuba.

    This is a fantastic article that cuts through the ridiculous propaganda of western rags uncritically printing allegations of gusanos and the Yeonmi Parks of Cuba.

    The biggest difference between Cuba's situation and our own is the level of wealth and class character of offender. Cuba's political prisoners tended to be peasants, not the 'middle class' as exists in the US or proletariat. We'd need to adjust our program accordingly, but I don't want to get too into the weeds here until we're operating from a materialist lens and rooting our analysis in proven socialist projects rather than idealist notions of how reeducation looks.
