Why is the title different?
We like to have fun here.
What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.
What are the basic rules of the community?

Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. This place is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be "white" but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you've experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.

Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are "white" but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.

It seems like the “quirky/nerdy/weird” poc white worship the hardest.
Well if you are talking about outside America, most “nerd culture” is produced either in the USA or Japan. Generic Fantasy settings are based on idealized versions of Europe, and have a lot of problematic tropes associated. If someone’s only cultural input is this homogenized whitewashed crap then they will start reflecting that outwardly in their worldview. Marvel movies have an ideology. Video Games often have an ideology. “Apolitical” nerds who consume uncritically will have those ideologies
yeah I've noticed that, the nerds here are the type to be the most pathetic, the type to praise the west in everything and the type to think they are white.
Btw looks like you were right about the Italian warship, now reporting is coming out that they are trying to confiscate the aid and deliver it to an Israeli port in an Israeli approved plan.
I was holding out hope until more details came out since it was so uncharacteristic of fascist settler NATO states to use migrant-hunting warships for good and stayed on the fence about it before celebrating. Hope the Italian general strike punishes these snakes

what happened that gave you such an impression?
Living life in both the US and a majority non-white country.
It could also be due to the fact that a lot of fandom's/fan communities are dominated by white people so nerdy poc appease the white leaders of these communities by not speaking out against injustice.
I see this with my cs degree now where the POC in my classes either inherit the opinions of the white professors or dont speak up at all. The amount of anti China hatred in western cs classes is wild and some of it comes from the Chinese diaspora who will protect white ppls feelings.
