The 1987 repeal of the Fairness Doctrine led to far more divisive radio hosts. So many political things started on talk radio, like the idea that the Clinton’s have a “body count.” Rush Limbaugh was hired by ABC Radio in 1988, for example. Prior to 1987 people using much less controversial verbiage had been taken off the air as obvious violations of the fairness doctrine.
