Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. 5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
Y'all! This isn't ABC - this is conservative Sinclair and Nexstar Media Group!
@Immarsano@lemmynsfw.com nailed this one by reading the article.
Nexstar Media Group forced ABC's hand on this by saying they would run non-ABC programming on all their local TV stations they own. They're in the process of getting FCC approval for a $6 billion deal that would give them ownership of 265 local TV stations in 44 states.
Meanwhile, Sinclair Media, which also owns tons of local TV stations, isn't letting Kimmel's rerun on Friday be broadcast anyway, instead showing a CK tribute show. So they were likely also going to do the same to ABC and just hadn't said anything publicly because they don't need deal approved right now.
This is the media version of Red-Stating, where state legislatures were slowly turned by the GOP which gave them the power to Gerrymander Dem-held House districts away and turn them red in 2021. How do you stop a global juggernaut liberal media company? You marginalize them by buying up all the local affiliates and stations that still make up a large part of their market. You buy up everything that sits in between the viewer and the media itself. Once the media company withers, you shove in your own programming as gaps open up.
Well, it’s ABC who don’t want to stand up to it
Because micky mouse doesn’t give a fuck about anyone except the dollar.
of course it's also ABC. ABC could have said "lol get fucked" but they bent the knee. And keep in mind ABC is owned by Disney who owns ESPN who JUST made a deal with notorious right-wing "trump buddy, buddy" company TKO to nickle and dime people to watch WWE shows. TKO the same company that is going to put on a UFC event on the damn White House lawn. TKO the same company that decided to cancel Wrestlemania in New Orleans in favor of take MORE blood money from Saudi Arabia and having it there instead.
They all connect with each other so saying one company isn't to blame and another one is, is bullshit and you know it. ABC is as much to blame as Sinclair. At the end of the day they all bow to dear leader.
Right? The number of calls Sinclair would have got when people can't watch sports on ABC would have been insane.
So I did the next thing and cancelled Hulu live with ESPN and Disney plus.
ESPN plus might be a bit hard, my daughter loves college volleyball and it's the only one that offers tons of matches to watch
Take 1 or 2 big steps back here.
Conservatives have unlocked a massive weapon to control huge swaths of media and data transmission, including cable companies who still control a lot of internet infrastructure. Worrying about ABC is immaterial when compared to the fact that foundational telecommunications systems are under their control and they just learned they can wield that power with impunity to change what they see carried over those systems.
Or, hey, you know what, fine, you're right - Disney bad, cancel Hulu for 2 months and I'm sure it'll all work itself out.
