Alright, then. permalink fedilink source hideshow 10 child comments replies: [–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 77 points 11 months ago (3 children) You know how far right conservatives love to accuse the left of ushering in 1984? Literally every accusation is a confession, it's wild how predictable it is. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] tdawg@lemmy.world 21 points 11 months ago The whole secret lies in confusing the enemy, so that he cannot fathom our real intent. permalink fedilink source parent [–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 18 points 11 months ago* It is called projection. "War is peace" because the local population is much more nationalistic and supportive of the incumbent government when fighting a war. Critics of the government can be declared traitors and enemy sympathizers and locked up without trial. People are also more accepting of rationing and lowering the standard of living in order to support the war effort. The war doesn't even need to be real. The government can just make up a war and get all the benefits that come from it. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 19 points 11 months ago (2 children) Like a "war on terror?" permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] threeonefour@piefed.ca 21 points 11 months ago War on drugs.
