Been trying to get people to sub to communities they would be interested in if they were busy. I do it have the mental capacity to start my own community and moderate it. But I feel like I'm doing the next best thing.

That post is interesting. As I said my comment there (https://lemmy.world/comment/18609088 ), people don't seem to realize we don't have the userbase for such niche communities, but hopefully that will make them realize we need more general communities for now

depends what we expect of the niche communities.... true that we don't have large niche communities like on r$ddit... but I think of the fediverse more like a cafe not like a stadium...

Even in a cafe, you need one customer on top of the waiter

A lot of places on general topics are ghost towns, [email protected] is a general topic but don't get any activity, so nicher communities will definitely struggle

oh wow I need to go to fancier cafes... where I'm at there's just a counter where you get your stuff and then you go to your table...

OK maybe a better analogy is an "open to the public" picnic. Some people put blankets out and are sharing from their baskets. If they're the only person sharing, everybody gets bored. But you can still have a good interaction if 3-4 people are sharing per blanket.
