It clearly went to the two organizing companies that later disbanded and have since declared that they met all their obligations.

LeBlanc said the effort to bring a CFL franchise to Halifax involved "significant and material financial obligations, all of which were honored." He said Schooner Sports and Entertainment partnered with organizations that included architectural, public relations, government relations and marketing firms.

They said they have refunded some people and that they're in the process of setting up a refund portal. I'll believe it when I see it.

What a grift. [email protected] emails you saying they're selling $50 deposits for season tickets for a not-yet-created team with a not-yet-created-stadium. My scam-dar would definitely have been set off

I don't think that sort of arrangement is all that unusual - deposits are generally used to gauge interest, in addition to funding the project. And they appear to have had CFL backing.

Where they got sketchy is the apparent lack of an automatic refund process.
