I know which community this is, but it is awfully hard to parry bullets in Armored Core.

Is there an equivalent? Or only dodges possible?

There is a shield which kinda behaves this way? The more you hold it up, the less efficient it is. So raising your shield just before being hit will protect you the most, kinda like a deflect. There is no impact on the opponent though.

The dodges are also different from other FromSoft games: there is no i-frames, so you can only dodge by physically dodging the attack, not just dodging at the correct moment

Protect the most but you still take chip damage, I take it?

Yea makes sense that these giant mechs would need to be maneuvered around efficiently and correctly

That depends. If the protection is good enough you wouldn't get any damage (it can be 3/4 times as powerful as the normal guard power of the shield)

But in essence, Armored Core is not really a game you can do hitless, you mostly mitigate damage instead

Gotcha. How do you like Armored Core games compared to your standard soulslike? Probably not a whole lot of things that are similar

That was actually my first FromSoft game, before I fell in love with Elden Ring and went with the other games.

But yeah, it really doesn't look at all like a Souls. I would actually compare it to an Ace Combat game, but with boss fights. It's really fast, there are tons of enemies in every direction, and you really fight in three dimensions (you can jump and fly). Your standard enemy is also really not a big deal, there are a lot of moments where you destroy them many at once.

And finally there's no leveling system really. You build your mech with parts that you can buy (the more you progress in the game, the more you have access to powerful parts), and you can sell the parts at the same price you bought them, so you are free to experiment.

Actually sounds pretty cool. Don't think I ever played a game like that. Would you recommend the newest one or is there a different one in the series that you fancy?

No clue, I never played the other games in the series, only the last one. But it's actually a pretty old series, and the previous game was already 10 years old when AC6 released. So I'd say go with the latest one honestly

Thanks - I'll have a look at it!

Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?
