This is a group chat for the private message app Signal. I want to foster a community of privacy conscious vegans and just engage in casual and serious discussions. All fun! (Also to plot war) Usernames are now a thing on signal, and hiding your personal phone number is the default setting on Signal as well.
I didn't downvote myself but I also see little advantage for a vegan group chat in comparison to the different public communities here on Lemmy. A pseudonymous group chat that's free to join for everyone doesn't provide much privacy and all the content would be unstructured. Thus, if interesting content is shared there, it will be hard to find it again later or share it with other people. I prefer a thread-based platform like Lemmy or traditional message boards.
This was greatly articulated. I think a Signal group chat would allow for just a casual or "right to be forgetten" discussion platform since disappearing messages exist. It is a niche communication preference, and many people want to get more from Signal if they're entire circle uses other platforms like Whatsapp instead.
Why is this being down voted?
