Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

The Arctic region has been a massive store of carbon for thousands of years. Now it's warming between 3 and 7 times faster than the global average and that carbon is escaping into our atmosphere. The latest research suggests that more than a third of it is now a net emitter! And in case you're wondering...that's NOT good!

Thank you, I was wondering about that, yes!? πŸ˜„

On a more serious note, I suspect that this is a part of the reason why we are seeing democracies failing all across the globe - the general populace is too selfish and short-sighted to do anything about what is coming, thus paving the way for people willing to make hard calls (even if at first they seem to be ignoring the climate situation, nonetheless what they pave the way to open up to likely seems like it could be gaining support due to this impending doom scenario looming over the horizon).

I don't doubt this is whats behind at least a few ethno-state ideologues.

MMW over the next 10 years we'll see a rise in eco-facism.

I mean if the people in charge aren’t trying to save us … guess we will have to one way or the other
