One candidate was going to paint the house red but could be talked to, the other one owns a red-paint business and ran on burning the house down, and "these people" didn't vote because they wanted the the house painted green. Fools. It isn't cope or strawmen, it is observation and you are coming up with any way to save face or feel better about your dire mistake.
