[–] Knossos@lemmy.world 33 points 2 years ago (3 children) Wing commander, Freespace. Games of this genre are completely dead. I'd love another decent mission based space flight game. permalink fedilink source hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] MajorHavoc@programming.dev 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) Yeah. I troll through old Wing Commander-like titles for good SteamDeck support every so often, but then I realize that I also want to play with 3 friends. Whoever gets this done will get my money. In the meantime, there's Empty Epsilon which is Star Trek, rather than Wing Commander; and there's Starlink: Battle For Atlas, which at least has solid local co-op on a docked Nintendo Switch (but is sadly buried in DRM on SteamDeck, while also badly overpriced.) permalink fedilink source parent [–] ProfessorPeregrine@reddthat.com 3 points 2 years ago (1 child) The guy behind Wing Commander (and my favorite game of all time, Privateer) has a mission based space flight game out next year. You can see the first hour of gameplay here: https://youtu.be/1H-0x4xk2Xk Keep in mind, cutscenes are in-engine not pre-rendered. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Knossos@lemmy.world 1 point 2 years ago Thank you for the link! permalink fedilink source parent [–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 1 point 2 years ago (1 child) Nah dude. X4 is great. The genre is still niche, but not dead. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Knossos@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 child) Sure, X4 is amazing. But that is multi leveled. Management, etc. I'm talking about very specific mission based games. No economy. No money. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [+] voracitude@lemmy.world 1 point 2 years ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 child) [deleted] permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Knossos@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago I have played Everspace 2.
