I will say that one of my favorite foods is salted tomatoes on toast, though that’s not even real British I don’t think.

Oh, a popular great depression-era food in the 'states was tomato mayo sandwiches. My grandma remains a big fan of them.

Throw a slice of fried up Spam in between those. Not the most balanced flavor/texture profile, but tasty.
