I think Toby mostly wanted Lara to remain aromantic because she was based on his own sister, and he left Core Design when they begun sexualizing her (And Eidos treated the people of Core Design like trash). Still weird that in Tomb Raider Underworld, a game that Toby worked on, the camera is fixed on Lara's butt instead of the normal behind her shoulders.
So many games have a "we don't condone being horny for this character (especially when it's a teenager and/or the daughter figure of the protagonist) but the camera is horny for the character" thing going on. The pandering to gross nerds is so fucking obvious.
Earth Defense Force - a B-Movie in game form - has a big problem with the Wing Divers. Their civilian outfit is great, a nice practical flightsuit. Then... their combat outfit is hotpants, and their future-warfare outfit is vertical hotpants. I can accept that it represents a great leap in cyberpunk clothing technology, but...
Anyway, to get back on track, the Ranger's biggest problem is that when he sprints the camera zooms right in on his butt and you can't see anything else.
