Plus our first team is currently better off in terms of quality that we can actually let a subset of players concentrate and shine on these cup games. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 child) I will say, the one thing that's good about the seeding thing with the new EFL cup format is that youth actually get to play. Still not the biggest fan of it, but yeah. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 1 point 2 years ago (1 child) Honestly - and I would love to hear people's thoughts on this - I think any club that qualifies for any level of Europe should be ineligible for the EFL cup. I swear the only reason that's not how it is is that teams want to be able to do the quadruple. Or if United need to extend a manager's fan "contract" for a few months. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 1 point 2 years ago (1 child) tbh if it weren't for the fact that the lower leagues get a decent chunk of money from it (like how AFC Wimbledon will surely be to deal with the mess that is their current pitch), I'd be in favour of scrapping it entirely. France did it. The EFL should just expand the Pizza Cup to include Championship teams if the Championship clubs somehow don't think they are playing enough games. Even so, I think the sensible thing to do is get rid of it and then force the PL to send more money down the pyramid. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 child) I mean you're right, but it's kind of stupid for that windfall to be dependent on luck, no? And yeah, I agree entirely, if you took just a few million from each club's prize money and distributed it to the pro leagues, it would be a gigantic sum of money for those teams. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 child) It's a bit of luck but you have to do good to get there in the first place. But yeah, like I said, take some more money off the PL besides just parachute payments, which fuck up the Championship anyway lol. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.world 1 point 2 years ago I should post a summary of SwissRamble's recent report of England's teams and their finances. permalink fedilink source parent
