▲ 994 ▼ Most young people are no longer proud to be Americans, poll finds (www.axios.com) submitted 3 years ago by FlyingSquid@lemmy.world to c/politics@lemmy.world 359 comments fedilink hide all child comments Overall, 39% of U.S. adults say they are "extremely proud" to be American in the most recent poll. Meanwhile, only 18% of those aged 18-34 said the same, compared to 40% of those aged 35-54 and 50% of those 55 and over. 18% is still too high. As Obama's pastor said, God damn America! Americans have very little to be proud of at this point.

America has given us precious little to be proud of and the "American Exceptionalism" folks seem willfully ignorant. I consider myself an Oregonian first and foremost. permalink fedilink source hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Blastoid5000@lemmy.world 10 points 3 years ago (1 child) As a non-American, I think the country still gives the world something. People may bitch and moan the military industrial complex, but I am glad American taxpayers sacrifice their own money to keep Chinese imperialism from devouring my country. I also think the American tech sector brings a lot to the table. Don't get me wrong, it's a cesspool of a nation, but it still produces useful goods and services. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] FJW@discuss.tchncs.de 1 point 3 years ago but I am glad American taxpayers sacrifice their own money to keep Chinese imperialism from devouring my country. You are from Taiwan by any Chance? I’m tempted to agree with you in that region, but I am not sold that the US is an overall net-positive if we also look into places like the middle-east and Latin America. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Burstar@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 years ago (1 child) Obligatory this was true over a decade ago and news flash: things haven't improved. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] PipedLinkBot@feddit.rocks [B] 4 points 3 years ago Here is an alternative Piped link(s): https://piped.video/watch?v=z2HKbygLjJs Piped is a privacy-respecting open-source alternative frontend to YouTube.
