After many days i finally received my GDPR data request, which i supplemented further with reddit-user-to-sqlite, so i have a nice full local copy of my account. Now I'm torn on whether to fully shred the data of the account or just delete it:

  • On one side, i highly dislike the idea of willingly contributing to a Wisdom of the Ancients scenario, although it might be a moot point anyway since it looks like Spez wants to wall off Reddit after all
  • On the other, fuck Spez and i don't wanna contribute a single cent to their profits
  • And as an additional point, it's rather unsettling the amount of info you can gather of somebody from their Reddit posts, just from a privacy point of view

What are your opinions on this?

Edit: Just deleted my RemindMeBot reminders, somehow that felt like it had almost the same finality as deleting my account somehow...

Edit...

Several subreddits had begun allowing porn and not safe for work content to protest Reddit. In response, the platform has removed entire moderator teams from the affected subreddits.

Looks like another hostile takeover.

Original link.

Apparently the admins aren't too happy with the new form of protest that Reddit moderators found, since NSFW subs don't run ads. Brought to Reddit users by the zombie admin account u/ModCodeOfConduct!

The admins also removed the entire mod team of r/MildlyInteresting (original link) and replaced it with either employees or sycophants, while giving all mods a 7d suspension ban.

Reddit: "subs belong to the community!"

Also Reddit: "screw the community, this is MY PRECIOUS!"

I'm willing to bet that r/ModCoord will be eventually banned. And the ban message will say something cryptic, vague, and meaningless.

Dev just announced it. I'm so happy.

Hi guys, starting today I'm implementing 37 new rules for this community. All members are expected to read and memorise all of them before posting or commenting, under the risk of permaban.

Okay, I'm joking with the above.

Serious now: I'm creating this metathread so you guys can give me some feedback on the community. Specially criticism; feel free to voice issues, concerns, and what have you.

EDIT, Jun/26: given the general lack of criticism here I'm unpinning the thread. Still, if you got issues with the community, please do voice them out here.

If you still have a reddit account, please hop in the reddit comments to show support.

Whether you used Sync or not, we could all use more app competition in this space.

So i have purged my comments and post as far as possible with "power Delete Suite" And indeed nothing shows up in my post and comment history. But hen i search for my username on reddit a LOT of my post and comments are still their although not in any of my account history.

I have read that reddit has a limit to only show the last 1000 comments/posts in your history. You would think that after each deletion more old stuff would show up in your history as that is now the last 1000 comments/posts. Seems like this isnt the case though.

Anyone knows how to remove this without deleting every post and comment manually?

EDIT1: Also just tried out using this on google search "site:reddit.com username" this finds also a load more even

It's not in the fediverse, but it's interesting as evidence of a migration away from reddit.

If the archive link doesn't open for you, here's the original link. A few highlights:

  • Since RR is not monetised, it'll likely survive the APIcalypse
  • The dev is still concerned about Reddit's tragetory
  • The dev is in contact with Lemmy devs.
  • "My long-term vision for RedReader is to restructure the app to more easily support other sites, including Lemmy, and perhaps others such as Tild.es and Hacker News."
