While the second paragraph has been slightly debunked, the first paragraph is an interesting idea I've underappreciated/neglected until now.

What do you think? Perhaps this is easier/more-scaleable than having federated instances with decentralised and often complex governance?

Hello! I'm just checking things out. What are some good magazines to check out? I haven't really ran into any toxic magazines, which is a huge plus for me. Anyways, the site seems pretty cool!

Draft! Work in Progress! Feedback welcome!

Tens of thousands of people have signed up for KBin and Lemmy accounts since I first published “Don’t tell people “it’s easy”,” hundreds of new instances have been created, and “the threadiverse” is suddenly a hot topic of conversation… Of course, it hasn’t all gone smoothly, but the opportunity isn’t going away.

Hi guys I recently saw due to reddit api Apollo is going under on Jun 30th. I remember the dev mentioning he would give an option to decline refunds (similar to tweet bot).

Do you know if he will give this option on June 30th or is there a process?

@RedditMigration does anyone know how to link a mastodon and KBin to each other? I've read this is a thing but it's still early days.

(Feel free to remove this as off-topic, but this relates to the post about the r/Piracy poll regarding what content will be permitted upon reopening. The body of this post wouldn't get the same reach as a comment on that post.)

Ahoy hearties! Here what I be thinkin'. Reddit be chargin' tens of millions of doubloons for third-mates to access the API, aye? They be claimin' to deserve a share of the booty for providin' trainin' data for AI (and obviously to kill competition with third-mate apps to boot).

Methinks if yee MUST chatter with those landlubbers (such as for the purpose of recruitin' new mates or cussing out mutinous scabs), then yee ought to make any text data yee provide unappealing and unusable to potential AI-training-customers.

Paintings of (Sexy) Captain John Oliver will only sully the attention of the human users. But (pirate) coded language mayhaps be an obstruction for bots? For those who find pirate speak to be too much effort, an alternative be to speak "sdrawkcaB".

I can no longer cast my bottled messages to Reddit's shore, so any of you seadogs are free to pass it along.

Can't believe it but they rolled back some of my posts as well.

I love internet-era folk horror, and would love a new place to read it... Is there anything like it in the Fediverse? I've found a lot of great authors through NoSleep. Even bought books from some of the creators.

Source: comment thread in r/interestingasfuck stating that it has not become a 'porn sub'. It only for nsfw because they also do malicious compliance.

I've been looking through the list of subs that are restricted and some of those I used to frequent. The mindset seems to have changed a bit. Maybe it's just this sub?

Edit: I mean, I should expect this. Oh well.

So uh I am old and easily confused—what does “rule” mean in a fediverse context and why is it in the titles of so many posts? Please take pity and explain it to this frail geriatric millennial. TIA

I mention the extension in particular because it is easy to set up use for those of us who don't want to dig through browser settings to set up a redirect rule

Targets mods, serial posters, or anyone who wants to crosspost something manually

  1. Replace YOUR_MAGAZINE_HERE with the target magazine. Or leave blank to post to any magazine via dropdown
  2. Navigate to old.**ddit.com
  3. Use KBIN button to crosspost an article
  4. Let kbin's API populate the title and body if applicable
  5. ???
  6. Profit

Thousands of moderators overseeing the site’s subreddits are on strike. It’s a wrinkle in Reddit’s plan to go public, and a sign that plan is premature, columnist Anita Ramaswamy writes.

Hello Fediverse!

This is my first post. I have a question regarding some functions that would be equivalent to those found on reddit.

What does the following message mean:

The magazine from the federated server may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

When will this be complete? Do I need a separate account for Lemmy to be able to post on there?
If not when am I going to be able to use 1 account/ my kbin account to post on lemmy as well? Is this an incomplete feature for now?

Also I wanted to post in the "RedditMigration" "subreddit". Is my post here or is it somewhere else?

Probably stupid questions by I appreciate any help!

kbin.social was the first thing on the recommended list.

Beyond differing official subs for warframe and deep rock galactic? Most of my time on Reddit was spent on r/hfy or r/writingprompts.

Are there any substitutes here?

As more and more articles and interviews come out about spez and how he's inspired by how Musk running Twitter, I genuinely can't believe he's this stupid. Anyone else think that we could see a repeat of what happened with Ellen Pao when all the gate subreddits were banned? All of these quotes from Spez are coming out, and the hate over the changes is directed at him, and blamed on him almost more than on all the admins, or the board. "Fuck spez" has become the slogan for opposing the changes at this point.

I won't be surprised if the board removes him at the 11th hour, and reduces the api costs to a level that the biggest apps (Apollo, RIF) will be able to keep operating, but may not allow for new apps to compete.

Anyone else think we could see it blow over like this?

Lost reddit migrator here, how do I subscribe to a lemmy community from my kbin social account using the kbin webapp? Or am I not understanding what federation means?

I tried Jebora for Lemmy app and see communities I want to subscribe to, but if I search for them here I cannot find them.
