Thanks

In today's society, marketing and advertisements have evolved into a form of modern piracy, not in the literal sense of stealing goods or valuables, but in the way they rob us of our most precious resource: attention. Attention has become the new currency, and companies are vying for it with relentless strategies that infiltrate every corner of our lives. From social media platforms to streaming services, our time and focus are constantly being extracted, often without our explicit consent, for the benefit of corporate profits.

These companies, much like pirates of old, employ increasingly sophisticated techniques to capture and hold our attention. Through algorithms designed to keep us scrolling and clicking, personalized ads tailored to exploit our psychological weaknesses, and a barrage of notifications, our attention is continuously fragmented. In the process, our ability to concentrate, reflect, and engage meaningfully with the world is eroded. The true cost of this is not just economic, but deeply human—it steals from us our capacity for deep thought, meaningful interactions, and emotional well-being.

This modern attention economy has turned large corporations into the true pirates of society, commodifying our focus in exchange for profits. By seizing control over the way we spend our time, they diminish our ability to be present, to engage with each other, and to make deliberate choices about how we live. In a world where attention is the ultimate currency, these companies have become master thieves, robbing us of the very essence of our humanity.

CONTEXT: We live in a country where not a lot of shows are available immediately. We have to wait for months before some of the shows available in the US or Europe make it to our paid streaming platforms. So my fiancé created a website where we can watch them.

He did not put ads on it, but you may encounter some from the 3rd party video source provider. Link is here if you want to access :) -->

I have Prime Video because I pay the fee for the free shipping. And Prime Video has to be the most disfuncional app I might have ever used. It is just so confusing and hard. Even right now, I’m trying to watch Thursday Night Football, and the sound is playing but the video isn’t. So now I find myself pirating TNF. Same thing with Paramount+ when I had it a for a few months, the app constantly broke and stopped playing randomly on any devices I tried. It’s often times easier to just pirate rather than deal with these disfuncional apps.

This is more of a piracy-adjacent question. I recently discovered Soulseek and have been using it for music ever since. I’m not gonna reveal my exact age but I’m a high-schooler. I grew up hearing about Napster once or twice but never imagined that I would discover my own equivalent one day. I’ve got it on my PC and it’s hard to believe that I’m now a part of something that’s been around since 2001, it’s like a time capsule, you know? We live in an age where the internet is often policed and used to track and advertise to us, which I don't agree with. I never grew up in the early stages of the internet where anyone could basically do whatever because it was all new.

I’m very much of the free and open internet mentality. With that being said, what are some random services that you've found to be useful in doing what you want online? Anything similar to Soulseek in that regard (legacy software, still has a lot of users) or anything else?
