We had a chat at work about the good old days where ISPs were local startups.

I was with Magma, he was with Primus. We were trying to find the other ones that were out there ! Help us remember Lemmy!

While advocates of the active use program are in support of the driveway's closure, some residents are leaning more towards Mayor Mark Sutcliffe's stance.

To address long-standing bearing problems in the axles of light-rail cars, the axle hub assembly is going to be completely redesigned, Mayor Mark Sutcliffe announced Monday. "That alone will not solve all of our issues, but I and the team at OC Transpo are hopeful that this redesign will be a giant step forward. At last we are working on the root problem, and not just the issues that arise from it," Sutcliffe said.

To help deal with the bearing issue in the short term, equipment will be installed at 16 points along the Confederation Line to grease up the track in tight curves, Holder said. It will take several weeks to complete the installations. Staff are also working to optimize a maintenance plan for the system, Holder said. R1 buses are currently running the length of the line, except for Cyrville station. A shuttle instead connects Cyrville and St-Laurent stations.

The Ottawa Puzzled Pint chapter has been running for 7 years. It’s a monthly newbie-friendly nerdy event that’s free. It’s not competitive. Next event is August 8. Runs every second Tuesday of every month.

The location changes every month and you have to solve an online puzzle (posted the Friday before) to find out where we meet.

People with plans to drive into or through Ottawa on Highway 417 this weekend should probably find another way to get there.

Has anyone else had the experience of peds in the bike lane, oblivious to where they are?

I slow down when I bike through there but some oblivious lady walked more in front of me last night when I rang my bell and I had to swerve dangerously.

What is the issue? Fading paint, more public education? A curb or physical barricade just at this location to deter peds from using the lane?

People seem especially oblivious here and I don’t want anyone to get hurt!

Discord link goes to some "gacha games" community; the correct link seems to be https://discord.gg/9VJ6bnx, as listed in the Matrix room description.

Telegram link is also busted, not sure where it's supposed to go.

[JUST VENTING - Nobody is actually going to find this or get hurt for having it...]

I hope it was worth your time. That backpack is worthless to you, but it was a collectable to me. And it is very recognizable.

It is a triumph motorcycles backpack that only came with one year of bikes. It was never sold to the public, and is no longer available. But it is still worthless for resale.

All that was in it was a bottle of pepsi and some random USB cables. But you did wreck my day, and my wife's. Since that was the bag that would have allowed me to get some groceries on the way home.

I have given 40 bucks each to a bunch of the folks at the mission with the promise of adding another 100 bucks to the person who finds it. 200 if they have proof they made you bleed.

If you would rather not get jumped by a pile of angry unhoused folks you should bring it back where you found it.

Piece of shit.

[Edit to add: Come on folks. This is obviously a venting post, and nobody is going to bleed over this backpack that has almost certainly already been tossed in a garbage can somewhere.]

House prices falling? (sh.itjust.works)

Is it my imagination, or are prices in Ottawa finally heading down? Houses in Westboro seem to be listed high, taken off the market, and then relisted at more reasonable values.

Be sure to charge up your backup batteries. Hydro Ottawa is also currently striking, so expect longer response times if outages do occur.

Edit: It looks like we're all good!
