This is based on the Loveland Frog that's allegedly been spotted around Loveland, Ohio since the early '70s.

The makers of hit TV show the White Lotus have dropped actor Miloš Biković from the upcoming series after criticism from Ukraine over the Serbian native’s ties to Russia.

Biković, who was cast for the third season of the award-winning dark comedy just weeks ago, has protested against HBO’s decision as “the triumph of absurdity and the defeat of art”.

A spokesperson for the network, asked by AFP for comment, said on Saturday only that “we have decided to part ways with Milos Biković and the role will be recast”.

At the end of his 1999 HBO special, “Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm,” David wraps up a stand-up comedy set by telling his audience he has no more material for them. “This is what happens when you run out of nothing,” he says.

The joke refers to the famous description of “Seinfeld,” the sitcom that David created with Jerry Seinfeld, as “a show about nothing.” It is also a bit of a lie.

. . .

On “Curb,” David starred as “Larry David,” simultaneously the world’s most comfortable and uncomfortable man, registering his complaints to a cast of sounding boards: Cheryl (Cheryl Hines), his wife and later ex-wife; Jeff (Jeff Garlin), his manager; Leon (J.B. Smoove), his permanent houseguest, who joined the series in mid-run and filled the chaos-demon role that Kramer (Michael Richards) did on “Seinfeld.”

You might say that “Curb” was simply a premium-cable version of “Seinfeld,” with improvised dialogue. The material was filthier — recall the obituary typo that rendered “beloved aunt” into a phrase unairable in NBC prime time — the milieu more autobiographical and more overtly Jewish. (“Seinfeld” made its cranky Larry David alter ego, Jason Alexander’s George Costanza, into a crypto-Jew with an Italian surname.) The affluent characters of “Curb” spent as much time eating breakfast and contemplating sandwiches as the “Seinfeld” gang did. They just ran up a higher tab.

But “Curb” was its own thing, for its own time. Much as “Seinfeld” captured the ironic vibes of the end of the millennium, “Curb” was the signature comedy for the agitated, antagonistic era of the 21st-century social internet.

Brad Pitt is reportedly starring in Quentin Tarantino’s final film The Movie Critic, according to a Deadline report.

The pair previously worked together in 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood with the role bringing Pitt his first Oscar for best supporting actor. Pitt also starred in 2009’s Inglourious Basterds and featured in 1993’s True Romance, which was co-written by Tarantino.

The new Los Angeles-set film, allegedly Tarantino’s last, is set in 1977 about a critic working for a fictional publication called The Popstar Pages. Tarantino has said it’s “based on a guy who really lived, but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag”. He added: “He was very rude, you know. He cursed. He used racial slurs. But his shit was really funny. He was as rude as hell.”

Hello everyone, I want to address the post earlier by a user who was unhappy about having one of their meta-posts removed which was calling for spin-off communities, megathreads, etc, etc.

This community was started 3 months ago after the lemmy.film instance abruptly shut down and we lost their MoviesandTV community. In that time this community has grown to 1100 subscribers and gets a few hundred unique visitors a day according to sidebar stats, which is awesome. But that is nowhere near enough traffic to necessitate spin-off communities for “reviews”, mod-sanctioned megathreads or other forms of direct mod intervention. This is not reddit and I don't have any intention of moderating this community as if it were a clone of r/movies or r/television.

I believe the best way to moderate a small community such as this in order to facilitate it's growth is to be as hands-off as possible. I'm here to enforce lemmy's rules, those of the instance we're hosted on, lemm.ee, and to make sure things stay on topic. But otherwise you really shouldn't hear much from me apart from being another active member of the community.

If you want to have a discussion about a movie/tv show, or share an article, video, meme etc. you are welcome to post it. The community will shape itself organically by deciding what kind of content we want to see through downvotes and upvotes.

There may come a time where this community is big enough to require megathreads to direct conversation about repetitive topics or major news to specific threads but we just aren't large enough for that to be a pressing issue. So as I said, if you want to discuss a new film or series, please just make a post about it yourselves. Don't expect mods to do it for you.

Having said all that, I will be reaching out to some of the more active members of the community soon to see if they'd be willing to help moderate. I'd like to add at least one or two people as I fully recognize one moderator running a community can be problematic. So it will be remedied. If you've made it this far, thanks for reading and I hope you have a good day!
