Hello, I was wondering about if there were any driver updating software that is

-for linux ** I am in a big predicament concerning this laptop i've had for awhile. one day the keyboard just stopped working, i've finally decided to check it again an here are some notes.

**-the ribbon is clean

-some keys do work, but they all press shift?

-the "j" key when pressed lights up the internet key??

-when said working keys are pressed, they constantly press the shift key and I have to restart the computer to get it to stop. **

I presume that it's the drivers being really corrupted? so TL:DR where can I find a driver troubleshooter/driver updating software. thank you for your time!

There is finally a decent alternative to reddit, after one has been needed for years? And it's open source federated software?? AND I can sign up on an instance that supports free sharing of media?!

I have been waiting a long time for reddit to fuck up badly enough that something else could fill the vacuum they created and do it right. Awesome.

I searched far and wide for the videos from it, can't seem to find them. They are really good (I trained with my friend who pays).

Assuming the answer to the above is "yes", is there a problem with image uploads today? I've tried several times to update my community's icon, background and upload an image post and it always returns JSON errors through Chrome, Firefox and Jerboa.

Also are there size limits (in pixels or kilobytes) for image uploads?

Following this post yesterday, the errors encountered by other admins were sorted and we realized captchas were not enough of a reason to keep people from experince the best version of Lemmy.

We are now on v0.18 with registration applications turned on, this is a temporary requirement until captchas are added back. If you encounter any bugs with the new version please mention them in the comments.

(Clear your cache if the new version doesn't load for you, should work fine after that.)

This is a massive upgrade, and a lot of the minor annoyances that users were finding about Lemmy has been fixed. You can check the above links for all the changes implemented but some of the major ones are:

1. Websockets replaced by HTTP: What this means for you is that instances will feel snappier due to less load, and the annoying sudden flood of new posts when browing hot is also gone. In general hot/active sorting has been reworked and feel much better to browse.

2. Links that would take you off-instance should now get automatically converted to ones that don’t. And just writing the name should be enough to turn it into a link. So no more manually searching for the linked communities you find in the comments.

3. Support for 2-Factor Authentification.

4. Custom emojis for Instances.

5. Support for PWA.

6. A Share Button.

7. Improvements to overall look and feel of Lemmy.

Not to mention many under the hood changes like database optimizations and bug fixes. This is a very big version upgrade that's come at just the right time.

However, some Instance admins encountered errors when trying to upgrade. And captchas, which we rely on to prevent bots from flooding in, will come back only in version 0.18.1.

So our options are to either upgrade now, maybe have some downtime and to turn on registration applications, or wait until v0.18.1 is released before upgrading (which shouldn't take more than a few days). We are leaning towards option 2 for now, but interested in hearing what others have to say.

I never was a big social media guy. Never had a Facebook or anything, except what google forced on me like Google+ and on reddit, I just used it for very specific tasks, when I couldn't find answers anywhere else.

With the current shitstorm on reddit I decided that enough is enough and wanted to give this Fediverse I keep hearing about a try. With a little bit of searching around, I made an account, got the mobile app and things seemed settled. Until I tried finding stuff more targeted than a wall of posts on jerbil.

Granted, I haven't read, let alone tried everything yet, but it seems limited, or most likely, I have no idea what I'm doing. Take for example emulation. One of the subreddits I was in, was about emulation since that's a topic I'm passionate about. Good, went to the link provided to search for communities and got 11 results. As expected for the most part.

What was not expected was most of them being in the double digits of users with the biggest ones showing 3 posts and like..6 comments total.

I know that while the fediverse is not new by any means, there's a large growth now with the shit happening over at reddit and is in by no means as populated or interacted with as the latter. But those numbers seem so small to me that I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

Please help out an illiterate idiot?

Edit2: It's been now 3 days and we went from 150 000 user accounts 3 days ago to 700 000 user accounts today making it 550 000+ bot accounts and counting. Almost 80% accounts on lemmy are now bots and it may end up being an very serious issue for lemmy platform once they become active.

Edit3: It's now 4th day of the attack and the amount of accounts on lemmy has almost reached 1 200 000. Almost 90% of total userbase are now bots and so far our instance didn't experience any sudden increase in the amount of created accounts.

Dunno if am on the wrong instance or what ever (freemedia or something) but there's very little content to scroll through. Do I need to ditch this and start again or is this pretty much standard?

I bought an online course recently. They mention on their websites that a note will be provided. But in the names of note they provide a 2-page summary for download, and the original note PDFs are not downloadable. I tried to download PDF from their sites via IDM but file corrupted. Even I tried to force copy and pasting into other documents but not successful as it pastes some encoded language. Only way I found to click screenshots of each and every pages on pc and paste into the word. It is very time-consuming. Is there another way to download PDF from their sites? Edit: look like the best way to capture it through screenshot.
