The successor to the Fairphone 5 will be officially unveiled on June 25, 2025, as NieuweMobiel has learned. WinFuture has already published an initial image showing the mid-range smartphone in Horizon Black.

Alternatively, the Fairphone 6 will also be available in Cloud White and Forest Green. At least one variant is reportedly equipped with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of flash storage. The design has been greatly modernized, with the screen bezels being significantly narrower than on the Fairphone 5, while the frame will be flat. One of the buttons is designed in a contrasting color, which could be the slider that detaches the back from the body.

The back is said to consist of two halves in different colors. Cameras include a main camera and an ultra-wide-angle camera, but no telephoto camera. The focus of the Fairphone 6 is said to be on making repairs as easy as possible. Components such as the two rear cameras, the selfie camera, the speakers, the USB-C port, the display and the battery are reportedly modular, making replacement by end users relatively straightforward. Spare parts will be sold directly to consumers.

The modular, split back allows users to get creative with color combinations. WinFuture speculates that the frame of the Fairphone 6 will be made of plastic instead of metal, as no antenna bands are visible. The base model of the Fairphone 6 is expected to launch for a suggested retail price of €549.

Mal eben das Display des #Fairphone 4 gewechselt
Runtergefallen

I'm a very happy iOS user planning on switching to the FairPhone when my iPhone finally craps the bed. I figure the switch will mostly be easy or just a matter of "go do this on your laptop or a web browser instead," but the two things I am most worried about are:

  • Find My iPhone alternatives for FairPhone. I'm an idiot who sometimes loses my phone when the ringer is turned off, so calling it does not help. This is the biggest sticking point for me because I am forgetful and I feel without this feature I might have ended up having to buy a lot more new phones because I couldn't find mine. I know they do have one through Google but wonder if there is such a feature without Google.
  • if it can do payment at stores (I've gotten very cozy with Apple Pay) or if I need to start carrying a credit card around again. This is mostly a convenience thing, although there are some card readers that reject my credit card and happily take the same card through Apple Pay, so sometimes it's an actual need. I could probably get around it by just ordering a replacement credit card though.

My friend of a friend is thinking on buying a Fairphone, but he've heard that apparently their support is kinda bad.

What is your opinion on this? Is it true?

I've been waiting patiently for the FP5 with /e/os to get back in stock (the one with more RAM and storage) and I just got the notification email a couple hours ago that it finally is! However when I tried to check out my cart and enter my address, for some reason my country (Cyprus) was not on the list of available countries. I looked into it a bit further and on the fairphone site they have this:

Lithium-Ion batteries are bound to shipping restrictions as they are regarded as dangerous goods, so we are unable to transport them via air freight. This limits us from certain island destinations. We also avoid air freight entirely for our European deliveries to reduce our carbon impact.

https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/17121765976849-Shipping-Costs

Ok, it might be the case and their hands are tied and they cant do anything about it. But looking on Cyprus' postal service site they have a section dedicated to prohibited items which is as follows:

Cyprus Post does not undertake the handling and transportation of items contained in the UPU List of Prohibited Items valid at the time, such as: radioactive materials, infectious substances, sensitive biological substances, explosives, flammable substances, corrosive material, narcotics, compressed gas and any other article whose transportation is prohibited by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Cyprus Post has the right to check the item using any method or means, including the opening of the package in order to prevent the transportation of prohibited goods.

Items containing lithium batteries cannot be accepted for dispatch using the traditional postal services. They can be sent using the Courier service QuickPost which is provided in cooperation with DHL Cyprus Ltd.

You should also note that every destination country has its own rules regarding the importation of goods. If in doubt, please ask the Service Agent at the Post Office.

https://www.cypruspost.post/en/faq-prohibited-items

That in addition to me having ordered mobile phones from abroad into here before, makes me think there is something else going on that is preventing fairphone from shipping to Cyprus.

I must admit I'm quite annoyed, because we are a member of the European Union and it feels a bit exclusionary to not get the same benefits other countries get.

That being said, does anyone know the true reason for this restriction? Is it actually a mistake on FPs side, or some weird legislation in Cyprus?

This post is half rant, half genuinely wanting to find out what the issue is, thanks for reading this far :)

I consider to switch to Fairphone from iPhone, what should I need to know? Is it possible to get it work without Google account? Or is it better to switch to another operating system as well?

I've been checking the page linked above every day hoping the bigger spec version of the FP5 (more ram+storage) with /e/os preinstalled will be back in stock, but for the past month or month and a half its remained out of stock.

I would like to make the switch as soon as possible, but I'm not sure when it will be back in stock. Just so I have a complete and well-informed picture of my options, would it be possible to have a tl;dr of the comparison between the preinstalled version and the stock version where I put /e/os on it myself? I'm talking about stuff like warranty voiding, issues with the install process, etc...

Thanks in advance!

p.s. Anyone have any idea when it will be back in stock? :p

J'ai bien reçu mes vignettes Tech, merci Machin Bidule pour l'idée, @fairphone pour le téléphone (Fairphone 3), @e_mydata pour l'OS dégooglisé, et @commownfr pour la location (...depuis 2021, donc !)

... anything I should be prepared to miss? I think there's pretty much just two things that are risky that I've gotten used to just working: NFC payments and streaming audio to my Tidal Connect -enabled network streamer. Should I be prepared for those not working?

Spent a couple of days now with my new @fairphone 5 from @murena with @e_mydata and I'm as happy as could be.

5/5, no complaints.

Hey everyone, glad I found a Fairphone community on here!

My current device's screen is broken (not unusable, but does cause problems and I was planning on switching anyway) and I want to get the FP5 with /e/os preinstalled (dont want to bother with doing it myself, I know thats an option). Im just wondering how long I can expect to wait for it to be back in stock. Its been listed as unavailable on their store for a while now.

If anyone knows from past experience generally how often they restock them that would be amazing to let me know!

Thanks in advance!

Phantom touches on FP4? (discuss.tchncs.de)
submitted 3 months ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Hi all! I have a Fairphone 4 that is serving me very well, but it occasionally reacts as if someone had touched the screen, such as scrolling randomly, zooming in in the camera, pulling down the settings menu, etc. I assume that there's something on the display that occasionally activates something.

I have cleaned the display several times, but still have the issue. Before I buy a new display to swap it out, which costs 70€, I'd like to know if anyone else has had this issue, and if you found a good way to fix it other than swapping out the display :).

Thank you!

Hi all, I've had my FP5 for a few months now. I usually have my notifications on vibrate only, simply because I think even the lowest volume level for notifications is too loud.

So I'm wondering, is there a way to go below the lowest possible volume for notifications somehow, and preferably without rooting. Or should I try my luck making a feature request at Fairphone?

Has fairphone said anything about trying to get fairphone parity in the US?

With how big the smartphone market is and with how much reparibility is becoming a bigger focus.

I'd love to get fairphone 5
